The First to Die At the End
Adam Silvera
Review ★★★★★
This prequel story to Adam Silvera's They Both Die at the End not only manages, but excels at delivering the same wave of emotions as its companion does. This story is at once romantic, tragic, and so much more.
Similar to TBDATE, the book is told from the point of view of the two protagonists, Orion and Valentino. In contrast to TBDATE, this chronicles the onset of Death-Cast. As the title suggests, only one of the protagonists meets their demise near the end of the book. (No spoilers! You'll have to read to find out who and how.) This book recaptures the magic of its companion, and wonderfully integrates the stories of its two protagonists into the larger Death-Cast universe.
This book, its conclusion, and the emerging romance between the protagonists that is woven throughout capture the emotions of readers in every way that TBDATE did. The books leaves readers feeling all sorts of bittersweet emotions.
