What If It's Us

Becky Albertalli | Adam Silvera

Review

Excellent and well-written story, told from the alternating perspectives of the protagonists. A great book about chance meetings, knowing oneself, and letting yourself be known by others.

Whether you believe in fate or not, this book is very enjoyable. While any format will delight anyone who reads this book, doing so alongside the audio version adds another phenomenal dimension to the characters. This book is simultaneously funny and heartfelt, a great read for fans of YA.

Notable Quotes

"I beleive in love at first sight. Fate, the universe, all of it. But not how you're thinking. I don't mean it in the our souls were split and you're my other half forever and ever sort of way. I just think you're meant to meet some people. I think the universe nudges them into your path." (8)

"I'm pretty sure this is is fate. Like we're meant to meet, meant to lose each other, and meant to find each other all over again." (140)

"I probably only need one guess to know what he's thinking: we were looking for each other. He went to greater lengths, but hearing I wanted to find him too? Well, we all love having our feelings reciprocated." (159)

"I want to hug him, but he doesn't want to be touched right now. Like any affection is going to become a target sign on our backs. Like we'll get punished because our hearts are different." (242)

"I'm so nervous I'm almost shaking. I can't wrap my head around this strange new possibility. This thing my brain's been circling around for years. How could I ever have predicted the circumstances of this moment— this particular night, this particular place, this particular boy. I always thought it would feel larger than life, and it doesn't, but I like that." (287)

"But maybe this isn't how life works. Maybe it's all about people coming into your life for a little while and you take what they give you and use it on your next friendship or relationship. And if you're lucky, maybe some people pop back in after you thought they were gone for good." (328)
